Maarimaia

Selling bespoke oriental pieces, Maarimaia came to us with a brief of an interior that would showcase their rich tapestry of clothing. We proposed different shades of taupe objects to give a layered backdrop to the colourful pieces and provide a layered experience as one walks into the store. Like paper, these objects are curved, snipped and shaped into many items and moments — a back-lit canvas for railings, a custom seetee backing, even a small enclave for bespoke customisation services.

Walls curve into a bespoke corner where the label provides made-to-measure services, creating space for customers to discuss their choice of fabric and style. A cylindrical change room anchors the space to draw the eye in, complete with a three-way mirror and bespoke rug.

Sharing her love for patterns like that of her clothings, founder May hand-selected a boldly textured black Colorato Marble and off-cut Onyx pieces for us to incorporate in the payment counter and change room accessories. These contrast with the soft walls around the store, all tapered and finished with round edging to create moments that invite contemplation and softness amidst the patterns.
